A pub in Upton Snodsbury now has a life-saving device thanks to a kind donation.

16th December 2021

Tamworth based housing developer, Owl Homes have donated a defibrillator to The Oak Pub adjacent to their development, The Orchards, in Upton Snodsbury.

The donation comes in light of the sad passing of Alfred Ellis, who suffered an attack during a visit to The Oak pub in Upton Snodsbury.

The British Heart Foundation has reported more than 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests each year in the UK, with a survival rate of less than 1 in 10 due to the rapid lack of oxygen to the brain.

Louise, Owner of The Oak Pub, says: “We are extremely thankful for the donation of the defibrillator from Owl Homes; it gives our staff, who have found this all extremely difficult, the confidence that they are armed with the best possible equipment in the event that anything like this should happen again.”

James Cullis, Site Manager for Owl Homes development The Orchards, says: “We were saddened to hear the news of Alfred’s sudden passing and to learn about the lack of defibrillator within the community. We are developing 22 new homes adjacent to the Oak Pub, which will bring new families to the community, so we thought it was only right that we helped support The Oak Pub by providing the community with a defibrillator in memory of Alfred Ellis.”

A defibrillator is a portable device that can be used by anyone to help restart the heart when someone suffers from a cardiac arrest and has stopped breathing. No specific training is needed, and the device will only deliver a shock to the heart if necessary.

When someone has a cardiac arrest, every second counts; for every minute that passes without defibrillation and CPR, the chances of survival decrease by around 10%.

Owl Homes, are developing the land adjacent to The Oak pub, where they are building a total of 22 homes. Phase one, the first selection of 9 homes, which is almost complete has just one 4-bedroom executive home remaining. Phase two will be launching in early 2022 which will see a collection of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes from Owl Homes core range, to find out more or to register your interest visit: Owl homes development in Upton Snodsbury
