Pupils from Upton Snodsbury First School have added a personal touch to the new housing development in the village.
The youngsters were recently challenged by housing developer Owl Homes to design a piece of owl-themed artwork, with the winning creation displayed in the Redfield showhome of their Orchards development in Upton Snodsbury. The designs were submitted to a judging panel, which chose an overall winner and two runners up.
Children from the school were invited to the showhome to display the winning piece and collect their Hobbycraft prizes. There was also a £200 donation to the First School as a contribution towards art supplies, and the housing developer has gone one step further by also supporting the purchase of new fleeces for every child at the school.
Yvonne Pearce, Sales executive at The Orchards for Owl Homes, said: "We were thrilled to invite Upton Snodsbury First School to take part in our art competition, the entries received were exceptional, so it was extremely hard to choose the winners. So much thought had gone into the children's designs, and we saw a large range of artistic materials used. We are delighted to have the winning piece on display within the office space in our showhome; it adds a very personal touch to our development."
Rachel Mayo, Headteacher at Upton Snodsbury C of E First School, said: "When we heard about the art competition, we were keen to take part, as we love being involved with our local community. We often have art mornings in the school, and the children enjoy being creative. We were lucky enough to go and see the show home and where the artwork was going to be displayed. The children loved the experience and are also very excited about their new fleeces".
